Project Messages

Use private Project chat and Polls to coordinate with the people in your current Project membership.

Open your Project conversation

Open the Project and select Messages. This conversation is private to active Project members; it is separate from one-to-one conversations under Account → Messages.

You can read messages and Polls created from the start of your current membership. People joining later cannot see earlier content. Leaving the Project ends access; if you rejoin, your visible history starts with the new membership.

Choose All, Polls or Chat

All shows chat and Poll cards together in activity order. Chat shows only normal messages. Polls separates Open Polls and Closed Polls so decisions remain easy to find away from the chat scroll.

Use Load older messages or Load older activity when available to read further back. In Polls, Load more open polls and Load more closed polls retrieve earlier decisions in each group.

Write and send

Messages are plain text, up to 2,000 characters. The composer stays below the independently scrollable history and grows from one line to at most four lines; longer drafts scroll inside the input.

  1. Type in Message. On desktop, Enter sends; Shift+Enter adds a newline. On a touch keyboard, use Send to submit.
  2. Use Add emoji to insert a quick emoji or open More… for the palette. This changes the draft until you send it.
  3. Select Send. Empty or whitespace-only drafts cannot be sent. If sending fails, the draft is kept so you can retry.

Live conversation and readable history

Incoming messages and typing indicators update while connected. Typing text is temporary; it clears when the sender stops, sends, leaves the conversation or hides their tab. Switching windows while testing can therefore clear the indicator.

Scrolling up lets you read earlier messages without continually jumping to the latest. Use Refresh messages to reload when needed. Expand conversation hides the site and section headers for more reading space; Restore headers brings them back. This is a layout toggle rather than browser fullscreen.

React to message adds an emoji response to an existing message. Reactions and draft emoji are different actions; see Emoji and reactions for details.

Unread indicators and email reminders

Unread indicators help you find conversations with new messages, including the Project’s Messages section. Reading the latest messages in a visible conversation marks them read; simply opening a hidden tab or browsing the Polls-only view does not clear unread chat.

Optional unread-message email reminders are controlled in My Account. They summarize conversation names and unread counts without copying message text. Votes and reactions do not create new chat messages or unread-message emails.

Make decisions with Polls

Use + Create Poll for availability, song choices or other Project decisions. Members’ responses are named, and an open Poll lets eligible members change their choice. Polls do not automatically create Events or Practices or update the Set List.
