Emoji and reactions
Insert emoji into a draft, or react to an existing message without sending another chat message.
Add an emoji to your message
Use Add emoji beside the composer. The quick choices and the expanded palette are shared with message reactions.
- Choose a quick emoji: 👍 Thumbs up, ❤️ Heart, 👎 Thumbs down, 🤘 Rock on, 🙂 Slightly smiling face, ❓ Question mark.
- Choose More… to open the searchable emoji palette if you need another expression.
- The emoji is inserted at the draft cursor, or replaces selected text. Continue typing, then select Send when ready.
React to an existing message
Use the smile control labelled React to message on a message. On desktop it appears on hover or keyboard focus; on touch screens it stays accessible. Choose an emoji to add your response.
Reaction badges appear with the message. Your selected reaction is highlighted. Select a badge to add that emoji yourself, or select one you already chose to remove your response. Counts greater than one appear beside the emoji.
Use View reaction details (the … control) to see names for each emoji. Reactions are visible to people with access to that message; they are not anonymous. Live updates keep connected readers in sync.
Emoji, reactions and Poll votes are different
Draft emoji becomes part of a normal sent message. A reaction is attached to an existing message and does not create another unread chat message or an unread-message email reminder.
Use a Poll for a decision that needs one named choice per eligible member, response totals and a No response list. Reacting with an emoji does not cast a Poll vote.
